Dear All, this is a brief message to inform you that the newest version of galfit 3.0 is now available on my website at: http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~cyp/work/galfit/galfit.html I would advise all potential current users of galfit to update to this new version, *even if you have a pre-release version of GALFIT 3*. If you do not see a binary version for your operating system, email me and we'll work something out. New Features: - Fourier mode fitting - spiral arm fitting - inner and outer truncations - bending mode fitting - a better way of determining the sigma image, but the object should **not** fill the entire field of view. - new documentation - subcomponent image slices Bug Fix: - There is one important bug fix from version 2, relating to when one uses a PSF that is oversampled compared to the data. Important differences in the input file between version 2 and 3: - In Version 2, the parameters 8, 9, and 10 are now relabeled to 9, 10, and C0 in Version 3. - The diskiness/boxiness parameter, now named C0, is an optional parameter that will only show up when the user calls for it explicitly. This is to be consistent with the fact that C0, Fourier modes, spiral arms, etc., are higher order modifications. Documentation: - Lastly, the official paper for Version 3 is pretty much accepted by AJ. I am holding off on final resubmission for a week in case some of you have important comments I ought to include. You can get a preview at: http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~cyp/work/galfit/galfit3.pdf It is also available on astro-ph at: http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/0912.0731 - For other details, please see the documentation I provided on the web and in the README.pdf file. Best wishes, Chien Peng
