Pasadena Postdoc Retreat 15-17 April 2009 |

Goal |
The purpose of this retreat is to encourage interaction and collaboration
between postdocs at the various Pasadena astronomical centers by
bringing researchers from these institutions together in relaxing
surroundings. The format will consist of informal, 5-10 minute talks
with ample time for discussion and interaction.

Location |
The conference will be held at the beautiful UCLA Lake
Arrowhead Conference Center, which is
a convenient 2 hour
drive from Pasadena. Lake Arrowhead is a premier mountain resort
in the San Bernardino Forest. |

Transportation |
Transportation will not be provided. If you are planning to drive and
have room in your car for other participants, please email Jeff
Crane (crane at ociw.edu). This information will be posted below. Carpools available: Sally Dodson-Robinson has room for 3 people as of 6 April. Kelle Cruz has room for 3-4 people, but is leaving Thursday afternoon, so can only provide rides to Lake Arrowhead. Mike Kesden has room for 4 people as of 8 April. Accommodations |
Lodging and meals will be covered by your host institution. The condolets at the conference
center offer a queen size bed with bath downstairs and a second queen
size bed with bath upstairs. A living room area with wood-burning
fireplace is shared by two conferees, furthering after-hours
conversation. All condolets have expansive decks with wonderful lake
or forest views. Please see the participant list below and the current
list of roommates to identify a postdoc with whom you would like
to share a condolet, and email this information to Jeff Crane
by 1 March. |
Meals |
Meals, snacks,
and beverages will be provided. Dinner will be served on 15 April.
Breakfast (buffet), lunch, and dinner will be provided on 16 April, and
breakfast and lunch will be provided on 17 April. The conference center can
accommodate most dietary requirements when arrangements are made in advance.
Please email Jeff Crane (crane at ociw.edu) by 1 March if you
have special requirements. |

Talks |
If you would like to give an informal, 5-10 minute presentation of your
research, please submit a title and short abstract by 1 March to Jeff Crane
(crane at ociw.edu).

Registration |
To register, send an email to Jeff Crane. Registered
participants are listed below. If you register and later find that you
cannot attend, please notify Jeff as early as possible. Registration, food, and lodging costs for Carnegie and Caltech postdocs are transparent and covered by your host institution. IPAC/SSC postdocs must submit a registration form to Gillian Tong at OCIW by 1 March. JPL postdocs should seek approval from their supervisors to guarantee their funding. Following that, they need to submit a different form and a check to cover the retreat costs, also by 1 March. They can then submit for reimbursement by JPL. Please CC Jeff Crane when you email your registration form to Gillian. |
